Oaklee is proud to announce that we have been nominated in two categories at the CIH All-Ireland Housing Awards 2025.
The One Team, One Community by Comhar Housing and Oaklee in partnership with Coolock Community Policing Unit is nominated for the Excellence in housing innovation category. Over the past year, Comhar Housing have trialled a sports inclusion program with their communities. The initiative came about from an emerging need to engage with children and young people in the communities. In some areas there was a rise in antisocial behaviour and a clear breakdown of trust between the young people the local guards in the area, and the wider community.
Using an Asset Based Community Development approach, we looked at what facilities and positive initiatives have worked well in the past with the young people. Through consultation with the young people themselves, local community guards and local young people services, it was agreed to set up a six-week sports inclusive program. The camp would take place onsite and incorporated skills and values through fun interactive games.
Oaklee is also nominated in the Housing hero (tenant award) category. Oaklee residents Tomas and Monica Novac are nominees for the exceptional commitment to the environment and community in their housing community located in Trim. Both selflessly give their time and resources to help make their area a better place to live, doing regular estate clean ups and litter picks, planting trees, plants and scrubs at their own expense They have established an environmental and gardening business and are now assisting many other communities create beautiful community spaces helping local wildlife and the environment. Tomas is also a volunteer as biodiversity ambassador for Trim Tidy towns leading and supporting many projects to improve biodiversity in Trim town.
