We were delighted to get out and about to support the volunteers from our Walkinslough Court scheme in Co. Kilkenny where over the course of two hours on a damp evening, residents from fourteen apartments turned out to participate in a litter pick.
There is nothing quite like estate clean-up to bring our communities together. Not only is it an opportunity to make our estates and schemes look better and feel more vibrant, but it also gives residents an opportunity to get out and about, meet their neighbours and take pride in the place where they live.Aside from the obvious benefits of getting to know their fellow residents, activities like these foster greater community spirit, and a strong, close-knit neighbourhood Larry Hennessy, property and assets officer commented, “The feedback from tenants was very positive and they were delighted to see such a scheme established. It is definitely a foundation that Oaklee Housing can build on.”
With further, similar activities planned throughout May across the Oaklee Housing network of schemes, the Oaklee Housing team hope that events like these will help promote a sense of belonging and connection amongst residents and positively contribute to developing the social fabric of the places where we live.
